Devi Prasidatu mayi Brahmacharinyanuttama.

| The second name
of the supreme power (Shakti) is
"BRAHMACHARINI",
Brahma meaning penance or tapasya
and Charini means the one who performs,
meaning thereby that the one who
performs Tapasya is Brahmacharini.
The Devi appears in a radiant form.
In her right hand there is a japa
mala, and the left hand holds a
kamandalu (a small tumbler carried
by saints and divine forms). She
is worshiped on the second day of
Navratri. |

| The first form of Maa Durga is "SHAILPUTRI".
Born as the daughter of Parvatraj Himalaya,
she acquired the name Shailputri (daughter
of Shaila). The Oxen is her consort.
In her right hand there is a Trishul
(trident), and holds a lotus in her
left hand. She is worshiped on first
the day of Navratri. |

| The fourth form of Goddess Durga
is known as "KUSHMANDA".
Out of her faint smile she created
the universe. Before her there was
no universe. She is worshiped on
the fourth day of Navratri. She
is fond of the offerings of Kushmanda
(red pumpkin), and thus her name
is derived from her liking of the
fruit. |

| In her fifth form Maa Durga is
known by the name of "SKANDMATA".
Maa Durga by virtue of being the
mother of "Kumar Kartikeya" also
known as "SKAND"
is known as SKANDMATA.
Skand led the army of the Devtas
(Gods) in the famous mythological
Devasur Sangram (war). Puranas refer
to Skand as "Kumar" and "Shaktidhar".
She is worshipped mainly on the
fifth day of Navratri. |
